The Customs Committee commented on the news about the seizure of more than 5 kg of jewelry from Uzbeks who flew to India from Tashkent.
Earlier, it was reported that more than 50 gold chains with a total weight of 5.3 kg, hidden in a metal box attached to the rear panel of the luggage cart, were confiscated from Uzbeks who flew from Tashkent to Delhi.
The seized gold chains were valued at about $351,000, according to a statement from the Indian Customs Department.
The news raised questions from the public about how the departing passengers were able to take jewelry out of Uzbekistan. The State Customs Committee commented on the case.
According to the presidential decree, from February 1 this year, individuals: residents and non-residents are allowed to export finished jewelry worth up to 100 million soums without filling out a passenger customs declaration, worth 100 million soums or more - on the basis of a passenger customs declaration.
Individual entrepreneurs engaged in the production of jewelry are allowed to export jewelry outside the customs territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan for commercial purposes by filling out a passenger customs declaration without entering information into the Unified Electronic Information System of Foreign Trade Operations.
"Illegal importation of goods into one country does not necessarily mean their illegal exportation from another country," the Committee noted.
