Shavkat Mirziyoyev visits Samarkand, pays tribute to Islam Karimov's memory
On September 2, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Hazrat Khizr complex in Samarkand and paid tribute to Islam Karimov's memory. He laid flowers at the grave, and verses of the Holy Qur'an were recited and prayers were offered for the first president.

Members of parliament and government, representatives of public organizations, and labor veterans participated in the ceremony, paying tribute to the memory of Karimov.

After the event, Shavkat Mirziyoyev returned to Tashkent.
In accordance with the decision of President Mirziyoyev dated January 25, 2017, a lot of work was done to perpetuate the memory of Islam Karimov: large complexes, central streets in cities were named after him, a scientific and educational memorial complex was established in Tashkent and a mausoleum was built in Samarkand.
