Samarkand region to develop area for mountain tourism
Construction of cable cars and attractions for extreme sports enthusiasts is planned within the territory.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on February 6 to establish the "Okhalik-Okbuyro-Mironkul" tourism zone in the Samarkand region. The document has been published in the Lex.uz database.
The tourist and recreational zone will be situated in the "Urta Okhalik," "Okbuyro," "Yangijoy," and "Mironkul" neighborhoods of the Samarkand district. The "Okhalik" project will cover an area of 1,697 hectares, "Okbuyro" will span 414 hectares, and "Mironkul" 2,545 hectares.
The zone will specialize in mountain and extreme tourism. There are plans to set up zip lines, bungee jumping, zorbing, and cable cars, as well as organize rides in hot air balloons and on delta and paragliders.
Within the new tourism zone, there are proposals to establish modular and capsule accommodations, yurt camps, and auto camping facilities. Tourist trails with designated camping and picnic spots will be laid out between the projects.
Land plots in the zone will be sold to entrepreneurs through online auctions. Proceeds will be transferred to the tourism zone directorate and allocated towards financing its operations and implementing mountain tourism projects and infrastructure development.
By May 2025, there are plans to present the master plan and additional design projects of the zone to the regulatory commission.
