Uzbekistan to host annual Central Asian Open Championship in weightlifting and para powerlifting
A presidential decree “On measures for the further development of the sport of weightlifting” was adopted.
According to the document, from 2024 the following will be held annually on a traditional basis:
• Central Asian Open Championship in weightlifting and para powerlifting;
• Uzbekistan Open Championship in weightlifting and para powerlifting “Uzbekistan Open”;
• three-stage (district/city, regional and republican) championships and cups in weightlifting in age categories established by the approved norms and rules of the International Weightlifting Federation;
• Uzbekistan championship in weightlifting and para powerlifting among state sports and educational institutions.
A Weightlifting Center will be created under the Ministry of Sports, which will begin its activities in the 2025/2026 academic year.
Until September 1, 2024, weightlifting bases in training centers for Olympic and Paralympic sports will be equipped with sports equipment and inventory that meet international requirements; in the future, they will be provided with special sports clothing (equipment) and other necessary equipment on an ongoing basis.
From September 1, 2024, regional schools of the Republican Specialized Integrated Children’s and Youth Sports School will be opened in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Namangan, Tashkent and Samarkand regions, special attention will be paid to the development of the sport of “weightlifting” in these schools.
