Uzbekistan aiming to create over 10,000 jobs with new capacities in copper industry

Uzbekistan has announced the concept of developing the copper industry cluster by 2030.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has published a draft decision "On the development of the copper industry cluster aimed at creating multi-tiered value-added chains from raw materials to finished products."

The draft decision prescribes the approval of the following documents:

- The concept of developing the copper industry cluster of Uzbekistan until 2030;
- The "Roadmap" for creating a full-cycle technological chain for the production of high-value-added products from copper raw materials for the years 2024-2030;
- Targeted programs and performance indicators for processing copper raw materials within high-value-added product manufacture for the years 2024-2030;
- The order of placing investors in the copper industry cluster territory.

The adoption of this decision and the implementation of the concept are expected to achieve the following results:

- By the year 2030, the annual volume of copper production is expected to reach 400,000 tons, with more than 300,000 tons being processed industrially;
- Aiming to attract investments of 1.5 billion dollars to boost the localization of electrical and household appliance production, thus increasing the total production volume to 8 billion dollars;
- Local and foreign investments in the production of finished and semi-finished copper products will be attracted within the cluster;
- Copper processing indicators within the copper industry cluster are expected to reach 80 percent through the implementation of copper processing projects;
- Plans to introduce localization for the production of new types of equipment and components (spare parts) necessary for the mining and metallurgy industry;
- The volume of exports of finished products and services with high added value will be increased;
- A system for training and enhancing the qualifications of highly skilled personnel in the mining and metallurgy industry will be established;
- Over 10,000 new jobs are projected to be created by establishing new production capacities within the cluster.
