Uzbekistan allocates $50 million for new passenger carriages as rail issues mount

On August 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the ongoing work and future plans in the railway sector.

Recently, there have been many complaints about the condition of passenger carriages and issues with the cooling system. 143 carriages need repair, and 59 locomotives have exceeded their service life.

Therefore, $50 million from the Industrial Development Fund is being allocated for the production of new passenger carriages.

It was noted that an agreement worth $181 million has been reached with Chinese partners to bring in 38 locomotives and modernize 12 electric locomotives.

In the coming years, the 196-kilometer "Miskin-Nukus" line will be electrified. As a result, travel time for passengers will be reduced from 16 hours to 7 hours.
