UN Special Rapporteur on Housing Rights to visit Uzbekistan
The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, Balakrishnan Rajagopal, will visit Uzbekistan from August 19 to 30.
During his visit, Balakrishnan Rajagopal will examine the protection and implementation of housing rights in Uzbekistan's national legislation and practices. This includes issues such as housing affordability and adequacy, access to services, and the prevention of forced evictions.
He will also analyze the measures taken by Uzbekistan to ensure that all population groups in the country can exercise their housing rights. Additionally, the Special Rapporteur will explore the impact of the climate crisis on housing rights and the participation of the population in decision-making on housing and urban development issues.
During the visit, the UN Rapporteur is expected to visit cities like Tashkent, Jizzakh, Samarkand, and Bukhara, as well as nearby districts. This will include visits to student dormitories and residences for individuals who have faced various difficulties within their families or have been left homeless. Several official meetings, as well as dialogues with representatives of civil society and business circles, are also planned.
At the end of the visit, the UN Special Rapporteur will hold a press conference.
The expert is expected to present a report on his visit to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2025.
