Citizens of Uzbekistan will be able to go to work in South Korea with two additional visa permits, the press service of the Ministry of Employment reported.
Minister of Employment and Labor Relations Bekhzod Musayev held a meeting with a delegation led by the head of the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea Kim Jong Do.
The parties discussed the possibility of sending Uzbeks to South Korea on E-8 (seasonal work) and E-7 (skilled work) visas. Currently, E-9 (unskilled work) visas are available to citizens of Uzbekistan.
The results of the discussion and the time frame for the introduction of new visa permits in Uzbekistan have not been specified.
The issues of safe and legal organization of labor migration, as well as measures to prevent illegal work of Uzbeks in Korea were also discussed.
In 2022, IMRI experts recommended diversifying the directions for labor migration from Uzbekistan, including organizing English and other foreign language courses. In 2024, the Ministry of Employment planned to send 100 thousand Uzbek citizens to work in South Korea, with salary offers of up to $2.5 thousand in the construction, services, agriculture and manufacturing sectors. South Korea also planned to employ 3 thousand Uzbeks in the auto industry.
