Bukhara airport security thwarts smuggling of 263 coins, some over 500 years old
In the Bukhara region, customs officers and Aviation Security Service personnel have prevented an attempt to smuggle ancient numismatic items out of Uzbekistan.
Customs officers at the "Bukhara Airport" checkpoint found ancient coins in the hand luggage of a passenger who was preparing to fly to Istanbul during a customs inspection.
As evidence, 263 ancient coins were confiscated, some of which, according to preliminary data, may have been minted around 500 years ago.
Currently, an art expert examination has been appointed to determine the age of these numismatic items, and a pre-investigation check is being conducted against the citizen.
It should be noted that according to the Law "On the Export and Import of Cultural Property," the export of numismatic items over 50 years old from Uzbekistan is prohibited.
