Water supply company fined for overcharging customers in Navoi region
Elkimyo-Suvtaminot, a water supply company with natural monopoly status in the Navoi region, raised tariffs for subscribers without prior notice, accumulating over 200 million UZS in unjustified revenue.
This prompted the Competition Committee to report violations related to the collection of payments for water supply and sewage services.
Under current legislation, entities with natural monopoly status must notify consumers about any price or tariff increases. Such announcements must be made in the media and on the company's website at least 15 days before the changes take effect.
A special commission from the Committee initiated a case against Elkimyo-Suvtaminot. The company's actions were deemed a violation of the regulation governing state-regulated prices, which was approved in December 2023.
As a result of the investigation, a financial fine was imposed on the company. Additionally, it was ordered to recalculate the excessive charges to customers, totaling more than 200 million UZS.
