An Uzbek–Malaysian Special Economic Zone (SEZ) may be established in the Parkent district, according to the press service of the Tashkent regional administration.
The governor of Tashkent region, Zoyir Mirzayev, held talks with representatives of Malaysia’s MMC Corporation regarding the possibility of creating a bilateral SEZ spanning 120 hectares in the region surrounding the capital.
The discussions also focused on the further development of the SEZ, the creation of new conditions to attract investors interested in industrial activities, and other related matters.
In February, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reached an agreement to establish a special economic zone in Tashkent Region aimed at supporting cooperation projects. The zone was to be managed by a leading Malaysian company.
Later that same month, it was officially announced that MMC Corporation would be responsible for both the development and management of the Uzbek–Malaysian industrial zone.
