Self-employment continues to rise in Uzbekistan, reaching 5.5 million
As of July 1, 2025, the number of self-employed individuals in Uzbekistan has exceeded 5.5 million, according to data from the Tax Committee. Of these, 58% are men and 42% are women. The total figure represents a 56% increase compared to the same period last year.
Household services remain the most common occupation among the self-employed. The number of individuals working in agriculture, manufacturing, and the service sector has grown by 64–66% year-on-year.
Regionally, Samarkand region leads with more than half a million self-employed individuals. It is followed by Tashkent with 538,800 and Kashkadarya region with 517,500.

Since the beginning of 2025, 184,200 people have registered as self-employed in the passenger transportation sector, specifically for private car services.
For reference, as of July 1, 2024, the number of self-employed individuals in Uzbekistan stood at over 3.5 million.
