Uzbekistan reaffirms support for UN reform and global peace efforts
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

The discussion focused on global and regional development issues, including preparations for the upcoming 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly.
In this context, the president of Uzbekistan expressed strong support for the Secretary-General’s initiatives aimed at ensuring international peace and stability, as well as for the reform of the UN and its core institutions to adapt to modern realities.
Special attention was given to the continued expansion of comprehensive cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations.
In recent years, 13 resolutions initiated by Uzbekistan have been adopted by the UN General Assembly.
This year alone, Uzbekistan hosted leaders of key UN structures and institutions, including UN-Habitat and UNICEF, and a representative office of UN Women was opened in Tashkent.
A joint forum on civil service reform was held, and active preparations are underway for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, to be held in the city of Samarkand.
Uzbekistan ranks among the top five most progressive countries on the Global Sustainable Development Goals Index. A new five-year cooperation program with the United Nations is expected to be signed in the context of achieving the SDGs.
The sides also discussed strengthening regional integration in Central Asia and involving Afghanistan in regional cooperation processes.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their readiness to deepen practical engagement and expand joint programs and initiatives.
