A memorial ceremony for Uzbekistan’s first president, Islam Karimov, took place in Tashkent on September 2.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Islam Karimov Academic and Educational Complex and laid a wreath at the monument to the country’s first president.
Quranic verses were recited and prayers were offered during the ceremony. The event highlighted Islam Karimov’s role in Uzbekistan’s independence, as well as his contribution to maintaining peace and stability and improving people’s well-being.

Representatives of the Oliy Majlis, the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, government agencies, and the Tashkent public also laid flowers at the monument.
Memorial ceremonies also took place in Samarkand and Karshi.
