On August 7, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting to assess the effectiveness of ongoing reforms and discuss new plans for the Navoi region.

In the first half of the year, investment in the region reached $643 million, while exports exceeded $635 million. New production facilities worth $550 million were launched, along with 1,140 trade and service outlets.

The president emphasized that, in addition to large-scale industry, Navoi has significant potential in pastureland development, livestock farming, and expanding the services sector. The region holds 20% of Uzbekistan’s mineral resources and 43% of its pastures. The presence of major industrial enterprises and well-developed infrastructure creates demand across related sectors.

To unlock this potential, a regional reform headquarters has been established in Navoi. During the meeting, a presentation was made on new projects developed based on proposals from entrepreneurs.

Investors have expressed readiness to invest $566 million in the development of eight mineral deposits located in Gazgan, Nurata, Khatirchi, Navbahor, and Uchkuduk. These projects are expected to boost industrial output by UZS 2.5 trillion and increase exports by $100 million.

For example, Nurata district holds granite reserves estimated at 750 million cubic meters. A 50-hectare industrial zone is proposed for processing the stone.

In 10 neighborhoods of the district, over 5,000 women are currently engaged in embroidery. The plan now is to open embroidery centers in 28 neighborhoods. Additionally, vulnerable families are to be provided with solar panels and mobile retail kiosks to help lift them out of poverty.

An additional project portfolio worth $1.6 billion has been formed for the region. Implementation of these initiatives is expected to create 10,000 new jobs, contribute UZS 1 trillion to the budget, and generate $238 million in exports.

The president instructed officials to improve the economic efficiency of these projects, noting the lack of cooperation between large and small enterprises. He stressed the need to link small entrepreneurs with major producers, introduce a system of guaranteed orders, and double the share of small business in the regional economy.

Mirziyoyev also highlighted the importance of ensuring access to water for pasturelands, using them efficiently, and expanding food production. He gave further instructions to establish modern recreational zones, develop tourism, and enhance the quality and reach of services in the region.
