SSS detains two men for demanding $900,000 to legalize housing project in Tashkent
The State Security Service (SSS), together with other law enforcement agencies, has detained individuals suspected of corruption during an operation targeting illegal activities.
According to the SSS, a citizen contacted its call center, reporting that two men demanded $900,000. They allegedly promised, through a connection in a senior position at the city administration, to change the land category of a one-hectare plot belonging to a private company in Sergeli district and secure permission to build multi-storey residential buildings on the site.
An operation in Tashkent’s Mirobod district led to the suspects being caught red-handed while receiving an advance payment of $220,000. Material evidence was seized at the scene.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 168, Part 4 (a) and Articles 28 and 211, Part 3 (a) of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code. The suspects have been placed in custody as a preventive measure.
