Uzbekistan supports transforming the UN Security Council and expanding its membership. The purpose is to effectively address modern threats and safeguard the interests of developing countries, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his speech at the UN.
The current global situation requires new approaches from the United Nations, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized in his address at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly on September 23.
“Our meeting today is taking place amid a rapidly changing and complex global environment. This compels us to look at the activities and future of our organization with new approaches. At present, the role and significance of international institutions in the world are weakening. Confrontations, conflicts, and wars are intensifying. Technological and social inequalities are sharply increasing. Economic and humanitarian crises are on the rise. All this is creating an entirely new and troubling geopolitical reality,” the president stated.
Uzbekistan fully supports the UN80 initiatives and remains firmly committed to the “Pact for the Future,” Mirziyoyev reaffirmed.
“We advocate the transformation of the UN Security Council and the expansion of its composition in order to effectively counter contemporary threats and protect the interests of developing states,” the Uzbek leader said.
