Uzbekistan to prioritize local alternatives in state procurement of electrical products
Starting in 2026, Uzbekistan will require verification of local equivalents when conducting state procurement of electrical products. Authorities will also review the trade of copper products to consider adjustments to customs duties.
From January 1, 2026, the Center for Comprehensive Expertise of Projects and Import Contracts will examine procurement documentation for electrical products and assess whether similar goods are produced domestically. The results will be reflected in the expert conclusion, according to a presidential decree dated October 15.
An interagency commission working with the World Trade Organization (WTO) has been tasked with analyzing the export of copper wire semi-finished products and copper goods, as well as the import of electrical transformers, semiconductor devices, and insulated wires. If necessary, the commission may propose temporary adjustments to relevant customs duties. These duties will not apply to products processed within Uzbekistan’s customs territory.
From 2026, companies exporting copper products will be required to include additional technical parameters in customs declarations, such as diameter, thickness, length, coating, and copper content.
The decree also aims to increase the volume of electrical product exports. Current exports amount to $970 million, with a target of $1.7 billion by the end of 2025 and $3 billion by the end of 2026. The export geography is expected to expand to 80 countries.
