Cabinet adopts resolution mandating state language use in building names and signage
According to a government resolution, starting from 1 January 2026, all residential complexes built in Uzbekistan must have names in the state language. In addition, building passports, signboards, and all inscriptions on temporary walls and fences around construction sites must also be written in Uzbek.
The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a new resolution on 22 October concerning the construction sector.
Under the document, from 1 January 2026:
- the names of residential complexes under construction must be in the state language and comply with linguistic norms and requirements;
- all inscriptions on building passports, signboards, and temporary walls and fences around construction sites – including advertisements and announcements – must be written in the state language.
Earlier, ahead of Uzbek Language Day, a presidential decree introduced the position of adviser to regional governors on spirituality and the state language.
In addition, another government resolution stipulates that the names of all railway stations across the country must be brought in line with the rules of the Uzbek language.
