EBRD to lend $20 million for Tashkent pipe plant expansion
The funding will enable increased production of large-diameter insulated pipes, which are currently manufactured only by the Tashkent Pipe Plant (TTP) in Uzbekistan, and will support equipment modernization.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide a $20 million loan to the Tashkent Pipe Plant, a leading private steel manufacturer in Uzbekistan, to expand the company’s production capacity.
The financing will provide TTP with the necessary working capital and allow the company to increase production of large-diameter insulated pipes (LDIP). TTP will purchase raw materials for applying protective insulation to water pipes and modernize the corresponding equipment.
TTP is the only manufacturer of insulated LDIP in Uzbekistan. These pipes are widely used in water supply systems, mining operations, residential and commercial infrastructure, as well as in major infrastructure projects such as bridges, roads, and overpasses.
The advanced insulation technology to be introduced under the project will extend the lifespan of the pipes from the current 15–20 years to 50 years, offering significant long-term benefits through environmentally friendly infrastructure and substantial water savings nationwide.
By improving the durability of water pipes and reducing water loss, the project will help enhance access to drinking water and contribute to the country’s sustainable infrastructure.
