The registration took place on February 2, when both companies were added to Uzbekistan’s virtual VAT office as value-added tax payers. Anthropic is known for its AI-powered chatbot Claude, while Valve operates Steam, the world’s largest digital gaming distribution platform.
Since the beginning of the year, five foreign companies have completed VAT registration in Uzbekistan. Newly registered entities also include Switzerland-based FunPlus International AG and Epic Games Commerce GmbH, as well as Singapore’s Skywork AI Pte. Ltd. As a result, the total number of non-resident companies registered in the virtual VAT office has reached 83.
In 2025, foreign internet companies paid a combined UZS 181.3 billion in taxes to Uzbekistan’s state budget. This represents a 1.5-fold increase compared to the previous year. The growth in tax revenues coincided with a 47.7% rise in the total volume of electronic services provided, which reached UZS 1.48 trillion.
Over the past year, eight companies were removed from the tax register, while 23 new entities, including OpenAI, completed VAT registration in Uzbekistan.
Apple ranked first by the volume of taxes paid, contributing UZS 49.51 billion to the budget. The company’s revenue from electronic services in Uzbekistan exceeded UZS 413 billion. Other major taxpayers included Meta with UZS 49.07 billion, Google with UZS 44.45 billion, OpenAI with UZS 11.71 billion, and Booking.com with UZS 4.32 billion.
