Construction of $150 million Arashan Resort kicks off in Namangan region
The foundation stone has been laid for the Arashan Resort, a major tourist complex valued at $150 million, in the Pop district of Namangan region. Spanning 600 hectares in the foothills near the Arashan lakes, the project aims to transform the area into a premier destination for ecotourism and winter sports.
The regional administration's press service announced the start of the project during a ceremony held on the eve of the Navruz holiday. The event was attended by the Governor of Namangan region, Shavkat Abdurazzakov, alongside various state officials and community elders.
The resort is being developed in partnership with the Japanese company NGEA – Nippon Global Education and Assessment, ensuring that the complex meets international service and construction standards. According to Nozimjon Ulmasov, a senior specialist at the Pap district department of the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade, the project will be implemented in five stages over the next two years.
The first phase, backed by $80 million in direct foreign investment, is slated for completion by the end of 2026. Once fully operational, the resort is expected to:
- Accommodate up to 2,500 tourists daily.
- Serve approximately 912,000 visitors per year.
- Create more than 2,000 new jobs for the local population.
Arashan Resort is designed to be a year-round hub offering a diverse range of activities. The master plan includes:
- Adventure and winter sports: Ski complexes, ziplines, and extreme tourism infrastructure.
- Health and wellness: Thermal water pools and recreational zones.
- Cultural and family leisure: Thematic parks, an open-air cinema, playgrounds, and an eco-market.
- Gastronomy: A variety of restaurants and cafes focusing on local and international cuisine.
This development follows a previous proposal by the Swiss company Bartholet to install cable cars around the Kamchik Pass and Arashan Lake, highlighting the growing international interest in the region’s geography.
Located strategically in the mountains, the resort is easily accessible from major urban centers:
- From Tashkent: 140 km (approximately 2 hours 22 minutes)
- From Kokand: 93 km (approximately 1 hour 40 minutes)
- From Andijan: 201 km (approximately 3 hours 10 minutes)
The project aligns with the broader national initiative announced by the President of Uzbekistan in August 2025. This initiative focuses on creating large-scale, year-round resort zones across 300–500 hectares in locations such as Chimyon, Omonkhona, and Nurbuloq, supported by $150 million in state funding for necessary infrastructure.
