Uzbekistan calls for Permanent Council on Economic Partnership within Turkic States

Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov has proposed the establishment of a new high-level body to accelerate economic integration among Turkic-speaking nations. Speaking at a meeting of the heads of government and vice presidents of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Baku, Aripov emphasized the need for a more structured approach to regional partnership.

The Prime Minister suggested creating a Permanent Council on Economic Partnership under the chairmanship of deputy prime ministers. He expressed hope that member states would support this mechanism and approve its implementation in the near future. According to Aripov, such a council would serve as a vital platform for deepening integration and coordinating joint efforts across key sectors.

Aripov also underscored the importance of industrial cooperation, particularly in the field of strategic reserves. He called for the activation of efforts to establish the Union of Turkic Chambers of Commerce and Industry. This initiative is intended to facilitate a dedicated cooperation program focused on strategic minerals, with the goal of creating full-cycle added-value chains across the member nations.

The gathering also featured an address by OTS Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev, who urged Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turjey to expedite the ratification of the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement. This agreement was originally signed during the 11th OTS Summit in Bishkek. Omuraliev highlighted that the institutional development of the Union of Turkic Chambers of Commerce and Industry would significantly enhance the role of the private sector in regional trade.

To further support small and medium-sized enterprises, the Secretary General pointed to the creation of the Turkic Investment Fund as a crucial milestone. He noted that the fund would play a pivotal role in increasing mutual trade and fostering a more resilient economic environment for businesses within the Turkic world.

The meeting in the Azerbaijani capital concludes a series of high-level discussions aimed at transforming the OTS into a more effective economic bloc. As member states move toward greater institutionalization, the focus remains on leveraging shared cultural and historical ties to build practical, modern economic infrastructure.
