Kazakhstan Railways reports 16% increase in cargo turnover with Uzbekistan

The trade and transport relationship between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan saw a significant surge in 2025, according to data from the National Business Kazakhstan information and analytical publication.

Reports indicate that the cargo turnover between the two countries via the Kazakhstan Railways network increased by 16%, reaching a total of 32.3 million tons.

Export shipments from Kazakhstan to the Uzbek market played a major role in this growth, totaling 13 million tons for the year. A particularly notable increase was observed in the agricultural sector, where grain transport to Uzbekistan jumped by 32% to reach 4.5 million tons.

The growth in bilateral transport mirrors a broader upward trend for the Kazakhstan Railways network. In total, the state-owned operator transported 319.9 million tons of cargo throughout 2025, marking a 5.5% increase compared to the 2024 figures. Kazakhstan’s overall export volumes across the entire rail network also saw a rise of 7.1%, reaching a total of 89.2 million tons.
