Major assets including UzAuto Motors and Navoiyazot set for privatization in 2026

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has ordered officials to accelerate privatization and reduce the state’s role in the country’s economy.

The state currently accounts for 42% of the economy, with 1,685 enterprises in which it holds a stake. Their number has fallen by 60% over the past five years, but inefficiencies persist, the presidential press service reported.

Officials said 362 state-owned enterprises were loss-making in 2025, with total losses of UZS 4 trillion.

Privatization is set to be reorganized along sectoral lines, while unused land and vacant facilities are to be brought back into economic use.

Authorities plan to reduce average office space per employee from 27 to 12–15 square meters, freeing up 4.9 million square meters for sale or lease.

Of the 11,400 hectares allocated to businesses between 2022 and 2025, no activity has started on 3,100 hectares. The government plans to introduce online monitoring by integrating platforms such as E-auksion, Yerelektron, and UzKAD, and to auction land together with ready-made business plans and permits.

Officials also reported preparations for the privatization of major assets, including UzAuto Motors, Navoiyazot, and several thermal power plants.

Mirziyoyev instructed officials to step up efforts to reduce state participation, improve asset efficiency, and speed up privatization, the statement reads.
