Uzbekistan and Pakistan discuss high-tech production of oncology and cardiovascular drugs
Uzbekistan and Pakistan are negotiating a strategic partnership to launch the high-tech production of next-generation pharmaceuticals in the republic.
According to the Dunyo Information Agency, the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry held an online meeting with Pakistani healthcare and business representatives to discuss large-scale investment in the sector.
The negotiations involved Abdulla Azizov, Director of the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry of Uzbekistan, and Syed Nadeem Ahmed, Pakistan's Ambassador–at–Large for Healthcare and Director of The Searle Company Limited. The primary focus of the talks centered on the high investment attractiveness of the Uzbek pharmaceutical market and the favorable legal framework established for foreign investors.
Syed Nadeem Ahmed highlighted the significant potential of Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical sector, noting that his company is currently evaluating the feasibility of establishing a high–tech facility. This production site would focus on advanced medications for treating cardiovascular, oncological, and metabolic diseases. Currently, international consulting firms are developing a specialized feasibility study for the project, which aims to attract direct investments totaling tens of millions of US dollars.
Tashkent is currently being considered as a priority location for the new manufacturing capacities, alongside other major regional hubs such as Lahore and Riyadh. The Pakistani representative emphasized that the goal is to create a modern production environment capable of meeting rigorous international standards for new-generation drug manufacturing.
The Uzbek side addressed all technical and regulatory inquiries from the Pakistani partners, reaffirming the Agency's commitment to providing comprehensive practical support throughout every stage of the project. To move the initiative forward, both parties reached an agreement to organize an official visit for a delegation from The Searle Company Limited to Tashkent. This visit will allow the Pakistani investors to conduct a detailed on-site assessment of the infrastructure and opportunities available for the project within Uzbekistan.
