Uzbekistan ranks 114th globally for employment – ILO
The Central Asian country’s employment rate stands at 55%, indicating that slightly more than half of people aged 15 and above are employed or engaged in economic activity.
The employment rate is a key indicator of labour market conditions, measuring the share of employed individuals within the total working-age population. The ILO compiles data from national statistical agencies.
According to ILO experts, Uzbekistan’s relatively moderate ranking may reflect not only unemployment levels but also a significant share of people outside the formal labour market, including students, homemakers, and those working in the informal sector.
Among countries of the former Soviet region, Kazakhstan ranks highest, with an employment rate of 67%, placing it 29th globally. Belarus ranks 67th, with 61% (61st globally), while Russia ranks 73rd, with 60%.
Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are ranked 111th and 175th, respectively.
