Afghanistan seeks global cooperation in total eradication of drug trade

Despite facing continued political pressure and isolation, the Deputy Minister announced that Afghanistan has successfully destroyed more than two million tons of toxic substances. He used the platform to urge the international community to move beyond constant criticism and toward practical, meaningful cooperation.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Munir expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the Samarkand summit, noting that the event provided a valuable opportunity for nations to exchange views on the serious threat that transnational addiction poses to humanity. He emphasized that such meetings serve as a vital foundation for aligning national perspectives and strengthening regional security ties.

According to the Deputy Minister, the fight against the drug trade reached a turning point in 2025. Throughout the year, authorities conducted approximately 42,000 operations across the country, resulting in the arrest of nearly 11,000 individuals suspected of drug–related crimes. Furthermore, 450 clandestine laboratories were dismantled, and more than two million tons of various narcotics, alcohol, and psychotropic substances were removed from circulation. Enforcement measures also led to the destruction of over 19,000 hectares of poppy and hashish plantations, while more than 28,000 individuals struggling with addiction were placed in rehabilitation centers.

The leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has issued several decrees aimed at the total elimination of drugs within the country. The Deputy Minister highlighted that the legal framework for this struggle has been reinforced, ensuring that illegal activities carry inevitable punishment.

Concluding his remarks, Munir argued that politicizing the anti–drug process or using it as a tool for political pressure harms global security. The Afghan side called on the international community to evaluate the real situation in the country fairly. He stressed that effective combat against transnational crime is only possible through a united front and mutual trust, rather than isolation and confrontation.
