President Mirziyoyev visits World War II veterans ahead of Remembrance Day
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spent May 8 visiting Second World War participants and veterans of the labor front, extending personal holiday greetings as the nation prepares to observe Remembrance and Honor Day.
The president visited the Central Military Clinical Hospital of the Armed Forces to speak with Akmal Akramov, Vera Zhuravskaya, Hasanboy Khalmatov, and Vladimir Alekseykov. During these meetings, the president inquired about their health and well-being, specifically highlighting the immense courage and difficult life paths these veterans endured.

"You are the living witnesses of history and symbols of resilience," the president remarked during his conversations. "Meeting with such esteemed individuals and listening to your wisdom gives us great spiritual strength. Our people are rightfully proud of you. Today’s peaceful and free days, and the happy future of our descendants, are the fruits of your unparalleled self-sacrifice."

The welfare of World War II veterans, home front workers, and the families of servicemen who lost their lives in the line of duty during the years of independence remains a priority of state policy. Beyond financial assistance, the government provides preferential vouchers to the country’s top sanatoriums to support their physical health and recovery.

President Mirziyoyev noted that the longevity and respect enjoyed by the veterans are a reward for their patriotic service, adding that their blessings bring peace and prosperity to the country.
In line with a presidential decree signed on April 16, Second World War participants and persons with disabilities from the conflict will each receive a one-time cash reward of UZS 30,000,000 to mark the 2026 holiday.

On the same day, the president visited Victory Park in Tashkent. He laid wreaths at the "Ode to Fortitude" and "National Devotion" monuments, honoring the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
