He reported the figures to lawmakers on August 25 while presenting the government’s progress report on the implementation of the Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy during the first six months of the year.
The new preschools include state-run facilities, public-private partnership projects and family-run private preschools. Nearly 42,000 new places were created for children across the country.
Kuchkarov also said the number of private general secondary schools had reached 786, with their total enrolment rising to 181,000 students.
As part of the strategy’s measures aimed at supporting women’s education, more than 17,000 women received recommendations to apply for university admission, according to the minister.
The government also provided UZS 64 billion in interest-free education loans to 4,900 female students studying on a tuition-fee basis. In addition, tuition fees totaling UZS 75.5 billion were covered for 11,000 women enrolled in master’s degree programs.
Kuchkarov said 12,000 young people registered in the Youth Notebook support program received UZS 27 billion in financial assistance during the first half of the year.
