Tashkent man fined for insulting president and his family on social media
The Olmazor District Criminal Court has concluded an administrative case against a 61-year-old man who posted insulting and false information regarding the President of Uzbekistan and his family members. The court determined that the individual’s actions constituted the dissemination of false information threatening public order and safety.
According to court records, the defendant, identified as R. T., born in 1965, left several defamatory comments under a video on the social media platform Instagram on April 25, 2026. Law enforcement identified the remarks as a violation of the country’s regulations regarding the public reputation of state officials and the integrity of information shared in the digital space.
During the proceedings, the defendant admitted his guilt, explaining to the court that he had written the comments while under the influence of alcohol and without fully realizing the potential consequences. He expressed sincere remorse for his actions and requested the court to show leniency in his sentencing.
The court found R. T. guilty of the offense stipulated in Part 2 of Article 202² of the Code of Administrative Responsibility of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He was ordered to pay a fine equivalent to 20 times the Base Calculating Amount, totaling UZS 20,600,000.
In its final ruling, the court also ordered the return of the iPhone 11 mobile device, which had been seized as evidence during the investigation, to the owner.
