Renewable power generation jumps 43% in Uzbekistan, pushing green energy share above 45%
The share of renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan’s national power grid has crossed the 45 percent threshold, leading to a direct drop in domestic natural gas consumption.
According to data released by the Ministry of Energy, electricity consumption across the country stood at 11,365 MW, while domestic generation reached 11,728 MW on June 24, 2026, at 15:00. Renewable energy sources – comprising solar, wind, and hydropower facilities – accounted for 5,310 MW of the total generated output. This marks an increase of 1,585 MW, or 42.6 percent, compared to the exact same period last year.
The rapid scaling of green generation capacity allowed the state system to optimize the load on traditional thermal power plants. Generation at thermal facilities fell from 7,243 MW down to 6,293 MW, which subsequently cut natural gas consumption at these stations by 293,000 cubic meters during the recorded period. Consequently, the proportion of clean energy within the overall generation mix expanded to 45.3 percent, up from the 33.6 percent recorded at 15:00 on June 24, 2025.
The Ministry of Energy emphasized that saving 293,000 cubic meters of gas is a practical reflection of the broader structural changes and green investments currently reshaping the domestic energy sector.
For the calendar year 2026, the government aims to conserve a total of 4.3 billion kWh of electricity and 2.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas through systemic efficiency measures and the expanded deployment of renewables. Looking further ahead, Uzbekistan intends to push the share of green energy beyond 50 percent of the total national electricity generation mix by 2030.
