Uzbekistan and US military officials map out 2026–2027 military cooperation
A delegation from US Army Central (ARCENT), led by Major General Michael J. Leeney, met with senior officials of Uzbekistan's National Guard to outline bilateral defense initiatives.
The talks, held during the delegation's working visit to Uzbekistan, included Colonel S. Mamayusupov, Deputy Commander of the National Guard, along with directors of relevant structural divisions.
The discussions focused on the current state of military cooperation between the National Guard and US Central Command, identifying key focus areas for future interaction. Both sides reviewed draft proposals for a comprehensive cooperation plan spanning the 2026–2027 period, as well as a new memorandum of cooperation designed to solidify bilateral ties and establish clear strategic priorities.

Expanding educational opportunities for Uzbek personnel emerged as a central theme of the meeting. The participants explored ways to increase the participation of National Guard service members in the US-sponsored International Military Education and Training (IMET) program. Additionally, the delegations discussed the implementation of joint educational projects aimed at enhancing the professional capacity and overall qualifications of the National Guard's force.
