Extreme heat may lead to temporary kindergarten closures across Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is considering the temporary closure of state kindergartens as the country continues to experience extreme heat, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education told Kun.uz.
The ministry said it is coordinating with regional administrations, the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, and Uzhydromet to assess the situation.
According to the ministry, any decision will not be applied nationwide. Instead, local authorities will determine whether to suspend kindergarten operations based on weather conditions and the sanitary and epidemiological situation in each region.
"The situation is being assessed separately in every region. If necessary, the activities of preschool education institutions may be temporarily suspended," the ministry said.
Earlier, authorities in the Republic of Karakalpakstan temporarily suspended the operation of both public and private preschool education institutions because of the extreme heat. The decision was made by local authorities based on recommendations from the sanitary and epidemiological service.
