According to the Cultural Heritage Agency, an inventory commission found that around 500 museum items were missing from the State Museum-Reserve of Kokand and its branches, including the Gafur Gulam Kokand Literary Museum.

An additional 16 museum exhibits were found to be missing from the State Museum of History and Culture of Syrdarya Region.

The Cultural Heritage Agency said the findings have been referred to the Prosecutor General's Office for legal assessment and appropriate action.

The inventory is being carried out in stages across museums nationwide to assess the condition and preservation of museum collections and individual exhibits.

The process was mandated by a 2022 presidential resolution, which instructed the Prosecutor General's Office, the Cultural Heritage Agency, the Cabinet of Ministers' Cultural Heritage Protection Inspectorate and the Academy of Sciences to conduct a comprehensive inventory of museum collections in all museums, as well as cultural assets held in other repositories, regardless of their ownership or institutional affiliation.
