The announcement was made by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov during talks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Rukh Ordo Cultural Center in Cholpon-Ata.
According to Japarov, the expansion of the border crossing network will make it easier for citizens of both countries to travel, conduct business, pursue education and visit for leisure.
"We have signed agreements to increase the number of border crossing points from 15 to 30. People will now be able to travel freely, do business, study and relax," the Kyrgyz President said.
Japarov also noted that relations between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are currently experiencing one of the strongest periods in their history. During Shavkat Mirziyoyev's state visit, the two sides signed a package of bilateral agreements covering border issues, education and other areas of cooperation.
Among the documents signed were an agreement on sections of the Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan state border, amendments to the protocol governing border crossing points, an agreement on the mutual recognition of higher education credits, as well as several other cooperation agreements across various sectors.
