According to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, several other Uzbek citizens were injured in the attack and have been hospitalized. The victims were working as construction workers at a construction company.
According to local authorities, one of the drones involved in the overnight attack struck a hostel in Nizhnekamsk’s industrial zone where workers were staying. Two Tajik citizens were also killed in the strike.
Rustam Minnikhanov, head of Tatarstan, sent messages of condolence to the presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan following the deaths.
Uzbekistan sends government commission to Russia
The Ministry of Emergency Situations said a government commission had been established on the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov.
The commission has been tasked with checking on the condition of injured Uzbek citizens and providing them with all necessary assistance. It will also arrange for the bodies of those killed to be returned to Uzbekistan on a special flight and transported to their respective destinations, while providing comprehensive support to their families.
A special working group has been sent to Russia to coordinate the necessary measures.
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said the country’s authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected citizens.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that during the night of August 10, Ukrainian defense forces had targeted the Taneco oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk as part of efforts to reduce Russia’s military potential. It said a fire broke out at the facility.
