Kyrgyz President’s Special Representative for Special Assignments Bakyt Torobaev inspected progress on the Mamay crossing project and the planned construction of the Kerben–Mamay road.

According to Torobaev, the project could create new opportunities for Aksy district and help take trade, economic and tourism ties between the border regions of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to a new level.

Once the crossing is operational, local residents will be able to export goods to Uzbekistan, while improved access is expected to support tourism. Officials anticipate more visitors to the area’s scenic destinations, including Padysha-Ata, Sary-Chelek and Kara-Kamysh.

The Mamay crossing on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border was closed in 2020. Members of Kyrgyzstan’s parliament, the Jogorku Kenesh, have repeatedly called for it to be reopened in recent years.

In July 2026, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan agreed to increase the number of border crossings between the two countries from 15 to 30.
