The Tashkent Multimodal Logistics Terminal will be developed by UAE-based DP World and Tashkent Invest in the Yangi Avlod Special Industrial Zone in the city’s Yangihayot district. The project will be implemented in three phases, with DP World holding an 85% stake in the joint venture and Tashkent Invest the remaining 15%.
According to Umurzakov, DP World’s newly appointed head has invited President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to attend the groundbreaking ceremony in October. Mirziyoyev welcomed the planned start of construction during a ceremony on August 25, describing the project as important for the capital.
The terminal will be built on a site of approximately 82 hectares and will include a rail-connected dry port, customs clearance facilities, vehicle storage areas, truck parking, warehouses and cross-docking facilities.
The first phase will have capacity to handle up to 150,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container traffic a year and will include a 63,000-square-metre warehouse complex. DP World’s original project announcement said the first phase was planned for completion by the end of 2026–2027, with a further 163,000 square meters of warehouse capacity to be added in later phases depending on demand.
The terminal will also have its own dedicated freight railway station and direct access to Uzbekistan’s national rail network, major highways and Tashkent International Airport, allowing cargo to be transferred between rail, road and air transport.
The project is part of a wider investment drive in Tashkent. Umurzakov said the capital had attracted $5.6 billion in investment in the first eight months of 2026, compared with $2.7 billion for the whole of 2024. The city is targeting $9 billion in investment and $4 billion in exports this year.
Fourteen additional projects are under consideration, including four industrial and two tourism projects. Once fully operational, they are expected to produce goods worth $3 billion annually and generate $1.5 billion in exports, with implementation expected to take about three years, Umurzakov said.
The mayor also provided an update on the Yangi Avlod Special Industrial Zone, which Mirziyoyev opened in November 2024. Twenty-two additional projects worth a combined $500 million are expected to be launched there by the end of 2026.
The industrial zone, previously undeveloped land, now has a project portfolio worth $1.2 billion, according to Umurzakov. Of the 26 projects planned there, 10 are expected to be launched this year.
Mirziyoyev said Tashkent’s growing investment activity should ultimately help improve living standards and strengthen the capital’s position.
