The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation said the new schedule is intended to ease traffic congestion during the morning and evening rush hours in the capital.
The change will apply to higher education institutions located in Tashkent. The ministry said the earlier start would also help students in both daytime and evening programs better organize their study days and give them more time for classes and other academic activities.
“During preparations for the new academic year, the heads of higher education institutions in Tashkent, professors, teachers, teaching staff and students are asked to take this arrangement into account,” the ministry said.
The move follows an earlier proposal by the Tashkent city administration to set working hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at a number of state institutions in the capital, also with the aim of addressing traffic congestion.
