A video showing demolition work at the former stadium circulated on social media, raising questions about whether the facility was being demolished or reconstructed.
The Cadastre Agency told Kun.uz that the stadium is owned by the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan.
According to the agency, a cadastral passport has been issued in the name of Yakkasaroy Sport Sog‘lomlashtirish Majmuasi LLC for a 35,753-square-metre plot of land that includes the stadium. The property is located at 5A Qushbegi Street in the Dilbuloq mahalla of Yakkasaray district.
The Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan is the founder of Yakkasaroy Sport Sog‘lomlashtirish Majmuasi LLC. The land rights, as well as ownership rights to the buildings and structures on the site, have been officially registered with the state.
On Aug. 28, the Uzbekistan Football Association said that the To‘qimachilar Stadium would not be demolished and that no other facility would be built in its place. The association said the stadium would instead be renovated.
However, a spokesperson for the Inspection for Control in the Sphere of Construction and Housing and Communal Services told Kun.uz that a permit had been issued for construction and installation work at the site.
“The project includes a five-storey parking facility, a four-storey consumer services building, shopping complexes, a stadium and spectator stands, as well as a two-storey underground parking facility. The project was approved by the council under the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services and registered by the inspectorate,” the inspection authority said.
The Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan also told Kun.uz that the work being carried out at the site does not involve demolishing the stadium. According to its representative, the project involves reconstructing the stadium and improving its infrastructure.
Once the work is completed, the stadium is expected to provide more comfortable conditions for visitors and spectators attending sporting events.
