The initiative is part of a broader effort to expand production and attract investment to Karakalpakstan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed relevant officials to develop specific plans for investment, job creation and higher-value production based on a “raw materials – finished products – exports” model.
Textile and leather projects worth at least $150 million will be implemented in Amudarya, Beruni, Takhtakupir, Kegeyli and Turtkul districts, according to the presidential press service.
Projects worth $200 million will be launched in the electrical industry in Nukus city, Nukus district and Karauzyak district, while projects worth $100 million will be implemented in the production of energy-efficient construction materials in Karauzyak, Bozatau and Beruni districts.
A $120 million project to produce auto parts will be launched in Nukus, while pharmaceutical projects worth $50 million will be implemented in Nukus city, Kanlykul, Kegeyli, Chimbay and Bozatau districts, the message said.
Roadshows will be held across the districts by October 15, with the projects expected to create between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs.
Karakalpakstan aims to attract $5 billion in investment next year, the presidential press service said.
