The agreement was announced at a meeting on the further development of Andijan region on Thursday, where President Shavkat Mirziyoyev outlined several projects aimed at expanding the region’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
The president said Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan had agreed to open the Keskaner border post. The project is to be designed and construction launched within three months.
The new crossing is expected to increase cargo traffic by two to three times and cut delivery times by up to one week.
The China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway is also expected to significantly expand freight capacity. Once operational, it will allow annual cargo volumes to increase tenfold to 15 million tons, according to the plans presented at the meeting.
To support the expected increase in freight traffic, construction of a $600 million logistics complex is to begin by the end of the year. The facility will cover 300 hectares in Kurgantepa district and the city of Khanabad.
Authorities also plan to design a 78-kilometer toll road linking Khanabad and Andijan in response to the projected increase in traffic.
