Mirziyoyev conveyed his condolences over the deaths and expressed sympathy to the families and relatives of those killed.
The incident occurred on September 24 in Mangystau region in western Kazakhstan, when 17 servicemen were swept into the Caspian Sea by strong winds during a military exercise.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense said the accident occurred after weather conditions deteriorated suddenly while the servicemen were carrying out a training and combat mission. The troops were conducting a landing exercise when strong winds and waves swept them farther out to sea.
Three servicemen were rescued, while search and rescue operations continued until the morning of September 25. The bodies of 14 servicemen were subsequently recovered.
Twelve of those killed were conscripts. A lieutenant and a sergeant were also among the victims.
Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry said assistance would be provided to the families of the servicemen who died.
September 25 was declared a national day of mourning in Kazakhstan in memory of those killed.
