The projects were presented at a meeting on the socioeconomic development of Kashkadarya. Mirziyoyev said demand for modern housing was growing and called for the development of new residential areas.
New Karshi will cover 5,000 hectares at the junction of Karshi city and the neighboring Kukdala and Karshi districts. New Nasaf will occupy 235 hectares along a canal in Karshi district.
Architectural firms and construction companies with relevant experience will be invited to participate in both projects. Work on their master plans is expected to begin within two months, with UZS 20 billion allocated to prepare the plans.
Both developments are expected to feature high-rise housing, shopping facilities and business centers. Their design will follow green-city and smart-city principles, according to the announcement.
Mirziyoyev also called for a coordinated regional effort to expand green spaces and plant more trees. He announced an annual “Greenest Neighborhood” competition, with valuable prizes, including electric cars, for the winning neighborhoods.
