Ajou University to establish a branch in Tashkent
South Korean University Ajou intends to open its branch in Tashkent, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
This was declared following the talks between Jamshid Kuchkarov, the Deputy PM, Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan and representatives of Ajou University in the Uzbek capital.
Jay Ik Lim, Vice President of the University for international relations, Joon Hong Cho, professor of international relations and Jay-Yun Him, director of the office of international relations took part in the meeting from the Korean side.
"During the meeting, the issues of creating Ajou University campus and a branch of this educational institution in Tashkent were discussed. Students will, reportedly, be enrolled to such faculties as architecture, electronic engineering, construction of engineering systems and so forth," the Ministry of Finance noted.
According to Jay Ik Lim, admission of students is expected to kick off in the autumn of 2019, quotas are set for 420 students. Education will be conducted in English. In addition, it is planned to introduce a program of education in Korean starting from September 2020.
"We hope and believe that the branch of our university in Tashkent will become a technical hub of knowledge and innovation,ā he said.
In turn, the Ministry of Finance announced its readiness to provide comprehensive support for the implementation of this project. Moreover, the Uzbek government plans to organize grant programs for students.
The parties also discussed other issues of bilateral cooperation for further improvement of the educational system in Uzbekistan.
Ajou University was founded in 1973 and is recognized as one of the leading institutions of higher education in the world. The university has over 14,000 students. Ajou cooperates with more than 200 universities of 58 countries across the world. It is widely specialized in the fields of engineering, medicine and information technology.
