Arbitration court judge arrested over South Korea seasonal work scam
The judge in Andijan had promised two individuals that he could send them to South Korea for seasonal work in exchange for $15,000, but failed to deliver on his promise.
According to the press service of the State Security Service (SSS), the judge, acting through acquaintances in senior positions, promised two residents of Andijan region that he would arrange their deployment to South Korea as seasonal workers and demanded $15,000 for the service.
To “speed up the paperwork”, the judge received an advance payment of $4,100. However, he was unable to fulfil his promise. He was detained by officers of the SSS and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes while attempting to return part of the money he had previously taken.
A criminal case has been opened against him under Part 3 (a) of Article 168 (Fraud) and Part 2 (b) of Articles 28 and 211 (Aiding and abetting in bribery) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. The court has ordered his pre-trial detention.
