Uzbekistan receives first batch of Sputnik V vaccine

Uzbekistan has received the first batch of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. The delivery was carried out with the assistance of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
Sputnik V, developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, was certified and approved for mass use in Uzbekistan in mid-February. The certification process began only after receiving the necessary materials from the developers, in particular, the results of the third phase of clinical trials of the vaccine.
Half of the cost for purchasing the vaccine was financed by entrepreneur Alisher Usmanov.
Uzbekistan plans to vaccinate 4 million people in April-June. By the end of 2021, this number may grow to 7 million, or about 20% of the country’s population.
Currently, measures are being taken to import more doses of ZF-UZ-VAC2001 and AstraZeneca vaccines to the country.
