Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Berhad eyes hydropower projects in Uzbekistan
The corporation has also been invited to participate in projects aimed at developing and modernizing the country’s electricity grid infrastructure through public–private partnerships.

Malaysia’s energy giant Tenaga Nasional Berhad may invest in the construction of hydropower plants in the mountainous regions of Uzbekistan, according to a report by Dunyo.
In Kuala Lumpur, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Karomiddin Gadoev, met with Megat Jalaluddin bin Hassan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tenaga Nasional Berhad, to explore potential areas of cooperation in the energy sector.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized that the Malaysian corporation’s expertise across the full cycle of electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and supply could be highly beneficial for Uzbekistan’s energy development.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad was invited to consider investing in the construction of small and medium-sized hydropower plants in mountainous areas of Uzbekistan. In addition, the company was offered opportunities to take part in public–private partnership (PPP) projects to expand and modernize the country’s electricity network infrastructure.
The company’s president said the proposals would be reviewed positively by Tenaga’s specialists. The parties agreed to appoint a dedicated Tenaga Nasional Berhad representative to continue detailed discussions on future collaboration.
