US delegation led by Zalmay Khalilzad arrives in Uzbekistan

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad will arrive in Tashkent on April 10, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.

The parties plan to discuss the prospects for inter-Afghan peace talks.

“During the bilateral consultations, it is planned to exchange views on the situation in Afghanistan and the prospects for launching the mechanism of inter-Afghan peace negotiations, to discuss the implementation of socio-economic and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan initiated by Uzbekistan,” the report reads.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan offered Samarkand as a potential “venue” for peace negotiations between the Government of Afghanistan and Taliban.
